We have already welcomed you into the world of FORWARD Press. But in a sense we are still guests in your space. So, it is appropriate to introduce ourselves. In case you have not realized, we are new – new in many ways: You are viewing and reading the first fully bi-lingual (English-Hindi) magazine in India, if not the world. We focus mainly on the ten Hindi states of north India – Hindistan.
Not only that, we believe we bring a new vision to journalism and media in north India. For want of a better phrase, we call it “Forward Thinking”. By that we mean we are committed to development and progress for all in India in all aspects of life, not just economic. We believe that growth needs to be inclusive – to touch the lives of all levels of society, especially the most backward. We do not believe a nation can claim to be forward unless all sections of society, the majority at the very least, enjoy the fruits of progress and development. The means are as important as the ends.
There are many ways to a better future but driving there we can, like some, choose to only look through the windscreen and ignore the rear-view mirrors. Yet others choose to drive looking only in the rear-view mirrors – no “compulsory” English in schools and the less computers and farm equipment the better. If we really looked into the rear-view mirror we would notice China racing to catch up and overtake India in this area of our global advantage.
Forward Thinking involves driving looking mostly through the windscreen but regularly keeping an eye on the rear-view mirrors. While reporting and analyzing current events and issues, FORWARD will put them in historical perspective. On the pages of FORWARD you will read our history as never written before. Our articles will help strip away the lies in our myths, legends and history.
While we are clearly opposed to hierarchical caste we accept jatis as social and cultural communities. FORWARD will celebrate the positive aspects of the jatis but we shall not hesitate to speak out the truth – in love – about things that need to change and improve. In fact, our commitment to the truth is higher than that of just journalism’s demands. We truly believe that, as we know the truth, the truth will set us all free. In the spirit of Mahatma Phule, we are truth-seekers.
Lastly, in case you are wondering, despite my foreign-sounding name, I was born and largely educated in India. After spending most of my adult life in the West I have returned to India, to my first profession, to start this magazine to contribute to the flourishing of India.

हम लोग आपका स्वागत फॉरवर्ड प्रेस की दुनिया में पहले ही कर चुके हैं। परन्तु एक अर्थ में हम आपके अंतरिक्ष में अभी भी एक मेहमान हैं। इसलिए यह उपयुक्त है कि हम अपना परिचय आपको दें। अगर आप ने यह महसूस नहीं किया है कि हम लोग नए हैं- बहुत सारे मायनों में नए तो आप एक ऐसी पत्रिका का अवलोकन कर रहें हैं तथा उसे पढ़ रहे हैं जो भारत की पहली संपूर्ण द्विभाषी (अंग्रेजी-हिंदी) पत्रिका है, अगर दुनिया की नहीं तो। हम लोग उत्तरी भारत हिन्दीस्तान के 10 हिंदी राज्यों को मुख्य रूप से फोकस कर रहे हैं।
इतना ही नहीं हम लोग पत्रकारिता और मीडिया के क्षेत्र में उत्तरी भारत में एक नए दृष्टिकोण को विकसित करना चाहते हैं। इसे ठीक मुहावरे में अगर हम कहें तो इसको हम फॉरवर्ड थिंकिंग कहते हैं। इसका मतलब यह है कि हम लोग भारत में सभी क्षेत्रों में, न कि सिर्फ आर्थिक क्षेत्र में, विकास और प्रगति के प्रति वचनबद्ध हैं। हम लोग मानते हैं कि विकास समावेशी होना चाहिए जो जीवन के सारे क्षेत्रों खासतौर से अति पिछड़ों को सभी स्तरों पर छू लें। विकास के साथ बहुसंख्यक लोग प्रगति और विकास के फलों का आन्नद उठाएं। साधन भी साध्य की तुलना में उतना ही महत्वपूर्ण है।
हम अपने भविष्य को खुशहाल बनाने के लिए कई रास्ते अपना सकते हैं परन्तु कुछ ऐसे लोग हैं जो सिर्फ हवा रोकने वाली खिड़की की तरफ देखते हैं तथा पीछे की तरफ देखने वाले आईनों की को नहीं देखते। कुछ दूसरे हैं जो सिर्फ पीछे के आईनों को देखते हैं और गाड़ी चलाते हैं जिसका मतलब है कि अंग्रेजी अनिवार्य नहीं हो और कंप्यूटर तथा खेती के बेहतर औजार न हों। अगर हम वास्तव में आगे दिखाई पड़ने वाले आईनों को देखें तो हम देखेंगे की वैश्विक लाभ के युग में चीन भारत से आगे निकलने की होड़ मचा रहा है।
फॉरवर्ड थिंकिंग का मतलब है आगे देखते हुए मुख्य रूप से गाड़ी चलाना परन्तु पीछे के आईने पर भी सतत ध्यान रखना। वर्तमान घटनाओं की रिपोटिंग और विश्लेषण के दौरान फॉरवर्ड हमेशा उनको ऐतिहासिक परिप्रेक्ष्य में रखेगा। फारवर्ड के पन्नों पर आप हमारा इतिहास उस तरह से पढ़ेंगे जैसा पहले नहीं लिखा गया था। हमारे लेख रहस्यों, आख्यानों और इतिहास में भरी झूठ को खत्म करने में आपकी मदद करेगा।
हम लोग जाति की ऊंच-नीच की अवधारणाओं के खिलाफ हैं परन्तु हम जाति को सामाजिक और सांस्कृतिक समुदाय के रूप में स्वीकार करते हैं। फारवर्ड जाति के सकारात्मक पक्षों को अंगीकार करेगा परन्तु इसके बार में तमाम सचाईयों को भी प्रेम के साथ बोलने में नहीं हिचकिचाएगा ताकि जिन चीजों को बदलने की जरूरत हो उनको बदला जा सके और सुधारा जा सके। दरअसल सच के प्रति हमारा आग्रह पत्रकारिता की मांग से अधिक है। हम लोग सही में विश्वास करते हैं कि सचाई को हम जानेंगे तथा सच ही हमें आजादी दिलाएगा। महात्मा फूले की आत्मा के अनुरूप हम लोग सच के आग्रही हैं।
अंत में अगर आप मेरे विदेशी नाम के प्रति आश्चर्यचकित हों तो मैं यह कह सकता हूं कि मैं भारत में जन्मा हूं और मेरी बहुतेरी शिक्षा भारत में हुई है। अपने प्रौढ़ जीवन के अधिकांश हिस्से को पश्चिम में बिताने के बाद मैं भारत वापस आया हूं, अपने पहले व्यवसाय को अपनाने तथा इस पत्रिका की शुरूआत करके खुशहाल भारत की खुशहाली में योगदान करने।
